Meghan Deutsch-Blanco is the founding attorney of Deutsch-Blanco Law, PLLC in Chapel Hill, where she practices family, employment, and humanitarian immigration law. She got her start at Legal Aid of North Carolina, where she advocated for immigrant survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and trafficking through the Battered Immigrant Project. A UNC School of Law graduate and fluent Spanish speaker, Meghan regularly trains other attorneys on immigration law and co-wrote a manual used to educate non-immigration lawyers on the basics of the field.​

Heather Crews is an immigration attorney based in Carrboro, focusing her practice on physicians, academics, and researchers navigating the U.S. immigration system. A UNC School of Law graduate, she brings prior experience from adoption and child welfare work before turning her focus to immigration. On the show, she and Meghan Deutsch-Blanco offer two vantage points on a system that's constantly shifting under the people who depend on it.​

Mavis Gragg calls herself a "death and dirt" attorney — her practice sits at the intersection of estates and real estate, with a national reputation for her work on heirs' property. Before starting her own practice in 2015, she worked at a large firm in Washington, D.C. She has also served as director of a regional family forestry program in northeastern North Carolina and was named a Loeb Scholar at Harvard in 2024. Her focus on heirs' property is personal: after losing both her parents suddenly, she saw firsthand how families can lose land and homes without the right planning in place.​

Chandra T. Taylor-Sawyer is a senior attorney at the Southern Environmental Law Center in Chapel Hill, where she leads the organization's Environmental Justice Initiative and focuses on water quality issues across the South. A UNC undergrad and law grad originally from Kinston, she's spent nearly two decades fighting to clean up contaminated industrial sites and helped lead the 2007 overhaul of North Carolina's Solid Waste Management Act to protect lower-wealth communities and communities of color from disproportionate harm. She also teaches as an adjunct professor at UNC School of Law and sits on the board of the North Carolina Justice Center.

Milan Pham is a founding partner of NicholsonPham in Durham, practicing family law with a focus on adoption, surrogacy, and LGBTQ+ legal matters. A UNC-Chapel Hill School of Law graduate, she spent years in civil rights work before founding the North Carolina Lawyers for Entrepreneurs Assistance Program (NC LEAP) in 2007. Milan has been named to Best Lawyers in America's Family Law section since 2024 and speaks Vietnamese and Spanish.​

Meredith Nicholson is a founding partner of NicholsonPham in Durham, where her practice spans family law, adoption, surrogacy, and assisted reproductive technology, with a focus on LGBTQ+ clients. A UNC-Chapel Hill School of Law graduate, she's a Fellow of the Academy of Adoption and Assisted Reproduction Attorneys and sits on the North Carolina State Bar Council. Meredith was honored with the NCBA's 2025 Citizen Lawyer Award and named to the North Carolina Super Lawyers list for 2025 and 2026. She speaks Spanish and French.​

Jen Story is a highly respected child advocacy education law attorney who spent years as managing attorney of the Right to Education Project at Legal Aid of North Carolina, fighting to dismantle the school-to-prison pipeline and defend students' rights in the public school system. She now works with the Richardson Family Education Equity Clinic at Campbell Law School. A UNC School of Law graduate, Jen was honored with the North Carolina Bar Association's Children's Champion Award in 2024 for her advocacy on behalf of kids across the state.

Anita Earls is an Associate Justice on the North Carolina Supreme Court, elected in 2018 after decades as a civil rights attorney. A graduate of Williams College and Yale Law School, she founded the Southern Coalition for Social Justice in Durham in 2007 and previously served as a deputy assistant attorney general in the DOJ's Civil Rights Division under the Clinton administration. Her career has centered on voting rights and civil rights advocacy across the South, work she now carries into her seat on the state's highest court.​
